This high-altitude country-within-a-country is not only geographically surrounded by South Africa; its economy is also integrated with that of South Africa. Agriculture, livestock, manufacturing, and mining form the basis of the economy. However, the economy depends heavily on influxes of workers’ remittances and receipts from the Southern African Customs Union to keep it going.

Lesotho is a country of beautiful landscapes, mountains that become swathed in snow in wintertime, and diverse wildlife.

The crime rate is fairly high, though this is more the case in the more concentrated urban areas.
There is a small handful of international schools in Lesotho.
